Default Jonathan Ross And Tommy Lee Edwards Part Ways On The Golden Age

I understand that Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards' upcoming comic The Golden Age, about superheroes in retirement, will not be going ahead as planned. But it will be going ahead.

They both worked on Turf, Ross' first comic, published by Image, and then serialised in CLiNT Magazine. The Golden Age was to have been a new superhero comic from the pair and was planned to be published this year, and to have been followed by a racing comic called Speed Trap. Indeed, considerable amounts of work had been finished on the project.

However I understand that, due to a parting of ways, it will no longer be published as a collaboration between them and that full rights on the project have been returned to Jonathan Ross. Expect a new artist to be announced next year.

Here's a look at what could have been.

Unless they announce a hell of a replacement, I probably won't pick this up. Edwards art was the main draw for me and Ross' writing isn't anything special. I could barely finish the latest issue of Americas Got Powers without falling asleep.

Great premise but, it's already been done.

Superfogeys the webcomic has been around since 2006.

Looks like Ross over-reacted to that, since that's largely true when it comes to workload.

I bought the first issue of TURF and was horribly disappointed with how clunky and overwritten it was. Tommy Lee will be better off on something written by someone who knows what they're doing, if this story bears up.

How well did Turf sell after the first issue?

I suspect it's more to do with the "respect" part of Edwards' statement.

To be fair, Ross hasn't done any comics writing worth respect yet.

They should change the title. They're just asking for comparisons to James Robinson's masterpiece THE GOLDEN AGE, even if the overall premise is different.

That's too bad. Pretty much every comic Tommy Lee Edwards does is outstanding
