Default Deathmatch #2 - Who Will Win?

Deathmatch #1 was a huge success for BOOM!, sellingmore than any non-licensed comic for the publisher. Paul Jenkins' debut issue provided thrills and surprises, while developing the setting for this deadly new series.

32 Were Chosen. 31 Will Die.

Deathmatch #2 arrives later this month (1/30), and here are the next contestants...

A powerful and mysterious supervillain has imprisoned the world?s greatest superheroes, forcing them to fight to the death until there is but one victor. It?s kill or be killed as we settle the score on all those hypothetical superhero match-ups in this new ongoing series by Paul Jenkins (SENTRY, INHUMANS) and artist Carlos Magno (PLANET OF THE APES)!

As you have no doubt seen the last two months, we have been featuring contestant profiles every weekday. To see all the contestants, visitourDeathmatch Death Draft Central.

Each month, prior to the new issue coming out, we will reveal the primary deathmatch along with profiles of the two participating characters with their key characteristic and powers. "Deathmatch #1 was a huge success for BOOM!, selling more than any non-licensed comic for the publisher."

    With a $1 price tag.

Doesn't mean it didn't hit a lot of eyes, but is this a news site or a hype site or what? Is Deathmatch sponsoring the site? Or is it just a deal where they get the exclusive character bios in exchange for coverage?

Paul Jenkins is a great writer, arguably one of the best Spider-Man writers of all time.

I enjoyed Deathmatch #1 quite a bit. (Certainly helped that they're all original characters.)

Seems to me like the Thor-looking guy is going to stomp the multiplying guy into the ground. "I can turn into 8 different regular dudes," is a pretty cool power if, say, you're running errands, but probably not very helpful when fighting for your life against superhumans...

Exactly. Unoriginal concept and characters, more of the same old same old tired crap, its what Marvel and DC do all the time anyway. It feels so forced, I doubt that it will last long...

Well unless there is a alt cover seems that Sol will be snuffed out along with the Sun due to Multiple-Ma... erm Replic-8 fighting Nephilim for a little bit. Unless they did it for the heck of it to throw people off. depending on the price I might pick this up as a regular book.

Seems like a bit of a mismatch here. But then again so was last month's.

The first issue price was a factor in me picking it up. But, it was so good, I am going to be getting this from now on. So I guess the "jump on" pricing works for me.

I agree with this! I picked it up for a buck, but I really enjoyed it. Similar to how Wanted used the standard Marvel and DC archetypes, but just twisted them a little bit.

I am looking forward to #2, and I have to say a bit of the reason I picked it up was Bleeding Cool's coverage.

The DC/Marvel comparison is kind of the point. It's fun to see these archetypes in situations where anything can and there are real consequences. And yes this whole concept seems a bit stupid fun, but there is nothing wrong with that. Remember, stupid fun is still fun.

It's nice of them to put up a bracket. You don't get brackets for deathmatches much anymore. It's the little things that count the most sometimes.
