Exclamation Please Read the Art Section Guidelines before Posting

This is mostly for non-comic art, though I'm not going to be too concerned if comic art gets in here (though generally, if you see published/promotional comic art that interests you, post about it in the Comic section)

IMPORTANT: in keeping with Bleeding Cool guidelines, no fan art of any kind here, please.

Posting your own art is encouraged, as long as it does not contain a character or property you don't own (public domain characters such as those done in Whitechapel's Remake/Remodel threads are ok). If your art is comic art, and it is in keeping with this guideline, it's ok to post it here too.

All that said... any kind of art works here: illustration, painting, sculpture, metalworking, and on and on... it's all good.

Oh... discussion of art is of course also ok here.

    Two quick questions,

    1. Can we share work that we are currently doing for someone else's book?

    2. Can we show sample pages that we are doing for our portfolios?

    Good questions!

    1) If you have been hired or otherwise authorized to work on someone else's character or property, you can post that.

    2) As long as it does not contain characters or properties that you don't own.

grumble, mumble -- artists get all the perks, like their own board. ()

well... we can certainly talk about fiction and writing in general. But posting fiction here will cause some professional writers to avoid the forum, which of course is something we don't want.

How about making a section of the board for writers who are breaking into the business, be it in print or online, where they can hype their work?

It wouldn't be fan fiction, it be professional work, just not "mainstream" (i.e. selling the same numbers as other pros do).

Something like "if you're a writer who self-published his own ashcan to sell at conventions, post it here for others to see, along with whatever links you have to websites where you're selling it" or something like that.

When I visited the comic bloc a few years ago I saw Nicola Scott post her art there, and based on the strength of that she was noticed by DC writers and became a penciller there.

Artists have it much easier than writers, so a little help wouldn't hurt, heh.

I've got some ideas in this area. Let me get the Review section off the ground and we'll discuss this as part of a bleeding cool project in short order.

I'm sorry if I am stupid, but I am missing the point regarding NOT doing art featuring licensed characters.
Not only is there absolutely nothing illegal about it, since it is for display, But you are a comic and multi-media website. You would think that that type of work would be allowed.
I also doubt the companies that own the characters would say anything negatively about it to your site.
Hell, they may discover someone on here.
