WWE News: Jerry Lawler Loses On-Screen Role, Amy "Lita" Dumas Gone From Company?

Back in July, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler was arrested for domestic violence, causing WWE to suspend him and remove him from his commentary spot on Smackdown, which he shared up to that point with Mauro Ranallo. When the charges were eventually dropped, Lawler returned briefly before being permanently moved to pre-shows as an analyst. However, it looks like Lawler's role has been reduced once again.

After being tipped off that Lawler had been fired from WWE, website 411 Wrestling obtained a statement from WWE earlier this week clarifying Lawler's current status with the company:

Jerry Lawler has a Legends agreement with WWE, however, he will no longer regularly appear on our pre-shows. He will continue to host special events, including WWE's annual Hall of Fame celebration at WrestleMania.

Lawler isn't the only WWE legend to lose the pre-show hosting gig. Amy Dumas, known in the ring as Lita, has apparently also been removed from pre-show duties, and perhaps the company as a whole, according to a tweet from former WWE commentator Jim Ross:

Unlike Lawler, whose prominence has been falling over the past year, Dumas has been increasingly more involved with the company. She introduced the company's new Women's Championship at Wrestlemania earlier this year, ending the era of female wrestlers being known as "Divas." Dumas also appeared on the most recent episode of WWE Story Time on the WWE network, a show that animates road stories as told by wrestlers, and she also appeared on the WWE Tables Ladders And Chairs PPV event pre-show on Sunday.

Ross's tweet conflicts slightly with a report from F4WOnline, the home of Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer reports that both Lawler and Dumas have been moved to "legends" contracts and may return to WWE television for special events in the future.
