Dennis Barger Wants You To Help Save The Local Comic Shop #savethelcs

We often have a spot on Bleeding Cool for Dennis Barger of Quickstop Comics and Wonderworld Comics in Detroit, Michigan.

Because he is outspoken, puts his money where his mouth is – or takes it away, depending, Bleeding Cool can always rely on Dennis for a story.

His "Daily D @3" Facebook videos hit their 150th post yesterday. So he took the opportunity to add to calls for fighting censorship and supporting veteran creators, so also supporting comic book retailers.

According to him, comic stores are hurting badly right now. He gave examples, and you really should watch below about how his store nearly folded only three years ago. How there is nothing in place as a safety net for stores going through hard times – or even if they simply miss a  shipment – but could still make it if they had such a thing. How many other stores go through similar things, and some collapse as a result. How profit margins are far lower than fifteen years ago. And how others have resorted to begging from customers for support – but most are far too proud to say anything until its too late.

He talks about creators who only care about retailers when their books are in Previews and its FOC time. About other organisations that haven't helped all retailers. Looking at modern comic stores, he estimates 500 would stay in business if comics just stopped publishing. Another 1000 that need comics to keep surviving. But the rest are in danger of going belly up tomorrow.

Dennis Barger wants to Save The Local Comic Shop. Specifically, save one retailer a week. Oh and he has a hashtag. #savethelcs

Watch the video. Chime in. See what happens next. Dennis? Bleeding Cool is in.
