Ryan Reynolds Feels Like He Can Channel Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool for all intents and purposes. At least in the mainstream, the two entites are inseparable, with many first getting introduced to the character only through his work.

It seems Reynolds think the two are somewhat inseparable too, going as far as to say he channels the character and call it his 'alter-ego'. Speaking to THR, the actor was talking about how comedies are under-appreciated in Hollywood, and landed on talking about his process with the character. He said:

The best comedy, in my opinion, has to be grounded in some form of truth. The character Deadpool is my alter ego. I don't want to sound esoteric, but I can channel that guy in a way I just can't seem to channel anything else. In terms of his sensibilities and certainly his sense of humor, I feel like we were born at the end of the same spectrum. It's a very odd situation.

I wouldn't characterize it as an easy role to play because the great hoax of Deadpool is that there's actually great dramatic tension that surrounds all of the comedy in the movie. I don't think we could have gotten those comedic payoffs if audiences weren't invested emotionally in the character. When the movie opened, we'd start to hear people say, "That was the funniest movie I've ever seen.

I do think Reynolds cares a lot about this character, and the success of the film means he's pretty well backed up on his take. We will have to see how it translates into a sequel, which has had a rocky start since Tim Miller left the director's chair. Let's see if the film can get the tough second album done.
