Boom Studios held a panel to talk about the upcoming WWE series launching in November. This partnership with the WWE was announced back at San Diego, but details have been sparse since then.

When I first heard the announcement I was a bit apprehensive. Full disclosure I am a life long wrestling fan. Also being a comic book collector I have seen some pretty bad comics based on wrestling. I am happy to report that after attending this panel, I will no reason to be sour about the new WWE series from Boom Studios.

The panel was moderated by Gavin Jasper and included writer Dennis Hopless, Jasmine Amiri(associate editor), Eric Harburn(editor), and Bryce Carlson(managing editor). The first indication that the WWE is in good hands came when hearing about the love everyone involved has for the world of WWE. Everyone was taking their moment to show their nerd cred for WWE history.

We got more details on the first book that will be coming in November. It's anthology book titled WWE: Then, Now, Forever. This one shot is going to set the tone for what Boom Studios is looking to do with WWE. The stories are going to based on storylines that have already played out on television. The comics will give you a glimpse in to the characters when the cameras go off. For example the main story in the one shot will deal with break-up of The Sheild. We will see how Seth Rollins came to the decision of betraying Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Interior art by Dan Mora was shown off for the first time. The anthology will also include a story about New Day as they take a trip in their Time Machine. Rob Schamberger will also have a back up story featuring Sasha Banks and her journey to the WWE.

In January the ongoing WWE series will launch with Dennis Hopless and Eduard Petrovich. The first story arc will pick up from the one shot and continue to focus on the break-up of The Shield. While Hopeless was careful not to reveal too much it sounds as if the first story will chronicle all the way up to recent events that have seen all three Shield members battling each other for WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Each issue will have back-up stories. A back featuring The Wyatts and their origin was teased.

It really sounded like these books are being created by fans, for fans. There are long term plans for stories and a long list of creators who want to join in on the fun. Also it would not be a proper Boom Studios comic without a ton of different covers. Lots of covers were shown off. A very cool series of connecting covers would be available for the ongoing. Each issue would show a current WWE Superstar battling a Legend in a Royal Rumble setting. Issue one pits Aj Styles against Shawn Micheals. Issue two was teased to have Cesaro giving Ric Flair the Cesaro Swing.

If you are a fan of wrestling and like what Boom Studios has been doing with other license, then make sure you give the one shot a chance when it releases in November.
