Celebrate Art House Theater Day This Saturday

Jonathan Rich writes for Bleeding Cool ….

Saturday, Sept. 24 may be just another day on the calendar to some, but many discriminating film fans will be at their favorite movie theaters to take part in Art House Theater Day to view special screenings in the company of those who also want more from the cinema experience more than just going to the local multiplex.

The press release for the event informs as follows:

"In an age where media has become more digital than tangible, more solitary than social, art house theaters remain the physical spaces where film lovers congregate and connect with intrepid, creative filmmaking. They are the beating heart for new and exciting cinema that is shaping the future of the medium …

Art House Theater Day is a worldwide celebration in honor of this movement, a day to celebrate cinemas that stand the test of time and the tremendous film culture that art house theaters promote."
While every participating theater is already unique both in terms of décor and the films each shows, the event will reflect that as well. Several film distributors are offering exclusive programs which can only be screened at participating theaters this Saturday and many have made special plans to celebrate the new event.

Grail Moviehouse in Asheville, NC, for example, is offering a special live streaming Q&A with the director of the rock journalism documentary Danny Says after the 7 p.m. screening in advance of its theatrical run at that location and will show the 4K restoration and remastered version of Phantasm for one show only at 10 p.m.
