Marvel Sends Out Free Copies Of Mockingbird #2 To Match #1 Orders

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a retailer in possession of an order for a first issue of a comic book will drop orders for the second issue by a third to a half.

Why? Some readers will try the first issue and not find it to their taste so will not want the second issue.

Which means, if everyone does read the first issue and ant the second issue, there won't be enough to go around.

STL001227For the new Mockingbird comic by Chelsea Cain and Kate Niemczyk, Marvel is trying to do something about that. But adding to retailers orders, for free, as many copies of Mockingbird #2 to bring it up to the number that ordered for #1

Which means issue 2 shouldn;t be hard to find. And maybe, just maybe, retailers might se their extra copies for promotional purposes and push up their orders for issue 3 as a result…

The last thing they did this for, I think, was The Vision. And that is Marvel's best comic book right now by far. I'e been calling it Marvel's Watchmen for a reason But the first issue of Mockingbird wasn't half bad either.

It did seem to confuse a number of readers however. It's a story that is meant to unfold in clarity with subsequent issues. Maybe this will help some of them stay the course.

Mockingbird #2 is on sale next week.
