SDCC '15: Playing Laser Tag at Conival With Nerdist, Geek & Sundry and Smart Girls

by Jeremy Konrad

Saturday morning I had a hole in my schedule so that I could sneak over to Petco Park to check out this years Nerdist-related activities. Last year when I checked out it I had a blast, and this year being co-produced by Geek & Sundry and Amy Poehler's Smart Girls I had high expectations.

Walking in we were greeted by the Raptor Pack in Lego form from Jurassic World (sadly, Echo was separated from her sisters). Once upstairs, there were giveaways from Legendary Pictures, Tee Fury was printing exclusive designs, there was a burrito stand (Enjoy Your Burrito!), and a Tabletop panel with Wil Wheaton going on. Smart Girls had a station for creating art with crayons, and Geek & Sundry had jousting and pictures with dragons. But once we got in, we only had one mission.

Last year Nerdist had sponsored laser tag, and it was one of the highlights of my con. This year was no different, as the battle zone was bigger, and the competition more fierce. We were on Team Badasses (Yellow) and our opponents were Team Thugs (Red). Once inside the battle-zone, it was all-out war, with people even doing parkour off downed ships to get that extra kill. In the end, we Badasses were victorious, and I out-performed myself from last year by having the third best score for my team. We walked away champions, and left it all on the battleground.
