Tales Of Bravery In Mouse Guard: Legends Of The Guard Vol. 3 #2

Legends_of_the_Guard_v3_002_A_MainFor those of you who don't know, Mouse Guard creator David Petersen has brought a number of other writers/illustrators onto his team for Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard Volume 3. The volume gathers the mice together at a tavern in normal fashion, as they swap stories about their adventures. The incentive; the mouse with the best story has their bar tab paid in full.

From Archaia, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, comes Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard Vol. 3 #2. It features three stories: The Fall of Brierwall, written by C.M. Galdre, with art by Nicole Gustafsson, Fallen, written and illustrated by Dustin Nguyen, and The Dancers, written and illustrated by Kyla Vanderklugt. Last month's issue was great, but I was only truly affected by one out of three of the stories. This month's issue left me in awe of all three. Each one of them resonate an epic aura of bravery.

Legends_of_the_Guard_v3_002_PRESS-5C.M. Galdre's, The Fall of Brierwall is a third person narrative, which is something we don't get to experience often in comics. I enjoyed reading that style as I witnessed Gustafsson's beautiful artwork. The story focuses on a town being invaded by the wolves of winter, and one mouse's journey to save the town. Kyla Vanderklugt's, The Dancers, reminded me of a classic fairytale, complete with a sweet moral of how effective kindness can be. While it was the mellower story out of the three, bravery still played an important role. Dustin Nguyen's Fallen, sits in the middle of those two stories, and while it is only two pages, your jaw will drop at the sheer meaning behind the tale. I went back and read it a few times just to admire the brilliance.

Legends_of_the_Guard_v3_002_PRESS-14I've mentioned before that I'm late to join in on the greatness that Mouse Guard is, but I couldn't be happier to participate now. I continue to be impressed with my reading experience as I weave in an out of Petersen's clever dialogue. Be sure to pick up Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard Vol. 3 #2, to listen in on these tales of bravery.
