DC Comics Go To War With Marvel In June – Here's How

1-time-bldgYesterday saw DC Comics hold a Retailer Roadshow in New York, the last such event before the publisher switches coasts for Burbank.

On the second floor of the Time & Life Building, comic book retailers strolled through security, to hear and see a presentation by Bob Wayne -his last such event as well – Jim Lee and Dan DiDio.

There wasn't a great deal to announce. Two previous retailer roadshows, in Orlando and Burbank, as well as a presentation in Portland and the May solicitations had told a lot of folk what they needed to know, but there was lots of artwork from the Convergence series of series to pore through.

Though much interest was exactly how DC intends to promote the mini-relaunch in June with 24 new books launching or relaunching. And also in the same month that Marvel cancel or suspend a number of their books, replaced by a number of Secret Wars crossover series and mini-series.

Well, DC Comics have told retailers that increasing launch numbers, in some cases above Batman numbers, will see them get an additional 15% discount on launch issues, on top of the 45-50% they may normally get.

Marvel will also be giving incentives on Secret Wars spinoff books, but probably not this much.

It's all to play for…
