Milestone Relaunches – But Where Is Michael Davis?

Milestone Media was founded by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis and Derek T. Dingle. A comic book publisher, that distributed its comics through DC Comics in the nineties, they brought a much needed greater ethnic mix to the superhero comics on the stand, and one much missed, as well as telling some damn fine comic stories in the process and finding both new fans and readers.

Yesterday it was announced as returning with Reggie Hudlin, Denys Cowan and Derek T. Dingle.

Dwayne McDuffie tragically passed away in 2011. But there was no mention of Michael Davis.

Which is curious because he is the co-creator of Static/Static Shock, Milestone's greatest success, with more issues published than any other, a successful cartoon broadcast and now a live action TV show on the way. Milestone started the careers of some of the biggest artists in the industry – and most were from Michael Davis' Bad Boy' teaching program.

So, why is he not part of the new Milestone announcements? Did his famous swagger and unapologetic 'Bad Boy' approach not fit with the new Milestone? Was he not asked? Did he refuse? He has done more than anyone to keep the Milestone brand and name going, with a museum exhibit in Maryland and a massive presence at San Diego Comic Con every year.

Oh that museum exhibit? Just extended past its planned year.
