Late Night Fun – A Life Sized Reminder Of 1977

When I was seven years old I took my allowance with me to visit my mom at her work, K-Mart. I remember wandering around trying to decide what I should spend my money on but by the time we had lunch I had not found anything. My brother said he saw some new toys I might be interested in and took me back to an endcap I had missed. It was filled with all these new action figures from a company called Kenner. I grabbed the two I found the most interesting… a big hairy creature with a bandoleer belt and crossbow and a masked figure all in black with a red sword that came out of his hand.

I had no idea what Star Wars was, never seen a trailer or a TV commercial for it. I just liked the looks of Darth Vader and Chewbacca. I had a few more figures before I had ever gotten over to see the film. Finding those figures changed my life and set me squarely on the Path of the Geek.

I can see why a company like Entertainment Earth would make a life-sized version of the original Kenner figure.  Available for pre-order now, the piece is a giant reminder of our youth… that will only cost us $2,339.99 plus shipping to have. I just hope they have figured out how to keep the vinyl cape from tearing under the arms and the tip of the lightsaber from bending.
