Booze Geek – Vampire Slayer And…Well, Vampire Slayer

By Dylan Gonzalez

Beer: Vampire Slayer

Brewery: Clown Shoes Brewery

clown-shoes-vampire-slayer-american-imperial-stoutClown Shoes Brewery goes two for two with another impressive stout.  The Vampire Slayer is a hearty brew but perhaps one of the best I have had.

As with most stouts, the Vampire Slayer is dark, dark brown, very nearly black.  But with a name like that, I couldn’t imagine it being any other way.  It produces a mocha colored head that is thick and lasts for a long time.

Vampire Slayer produces some very strong scents, particularly that of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee.  However, there is one more unique scent I noticed and that was charcoal.  A pretty potent, smoky charcoal scent.

These scents matched hand-in-hand with the flavors.  Coffee, roasted malts and dark chocolate were strongly present, as well as some of that smoky charcoal.  There was a minor bitterness to it, as well as some sweetness, like vanilla.  Together, these worked to produce a fully flavored stout.

On the palate, I found Vampire Slayer to very drinkable.  The carbonation is certainly present but nothing to get your worried.  One other interesting about this beer: it was apparently brewed using holy water.  I am not sure if that added any effect to it, but it was certainly a minor detail that caught my eye and gave me a chuckle.

Overall, this is probably one of the best stouts I have had.  It is very drinkable and features some really outstanding flavors.  Highly recommended to any stout drinker.

What to Drink This To:

I think the obvious suggestion here is Buffy.  I mean it’s right there in the name.  Pour this into your finest glass and enjoy your favorite episodes or season.  Or the slew of Buffy comics that have been coming out.  You’ve got plenty of choices.
