Mark Millar, MBE, Political Animal At Large

1390580405-630Mark Millar is quite the political animal. Describing himself as a lifelong socialist, at the last General Election not only did he switch allegiance from the Labour Party to the separatist Scottish National Party, he did so publicly, appearing in political advertising and, when the SNP were victorious in forming a national Scottish government, was thanked in his acknowledgement speech by First Minister Alex Salmond.

Since then, he has also headlined movements between the Scottish government and filmmakers, both local and international. He recently received his MBE (Member of the British Empire) for services to literature. And there are suggestions of office in any independent Scottish government.

But there's more, he's been taking to Twitter and involving himself in a number of political campaigns. And has been getting reaction.

Bacause as well as supporting the pro-Scottish independence-pro-European Union SNP, he also has expressed support for anti-European Union-anti-Scottish independence Nigel Farage and the United Kingdom Independence Party, who don't get quite as strong a support in Scotland and some might see are at odds with the SNP – even the pro-unionists think that they are a bit much.

Take the story that Labour MPs had laden an MP's Private Members Bill to push for a referendum on the existing membership of the European Union in this Parliament, with amendments so as to scupper it moving forward in the House Of Commons. Mark Millar made his opinions known… and got a response.

 

 

 

 

 

Or there's the debate over comedian Rufus Hound standing in the upcoming European Union elections under the National Health Action banner. And gaining controversy for this blog post about Prime Minister David Cameron and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt entitled "David and Jeremy want your kids to die (unless you're rich)" with free schools campaigner Toby Young stating "

 

 

 

 

 

But whatever his views, right now, the politicians are listening… and maybe they'll buy his comics!
