Jack O'Con – The Comic Convention That Suddenly Wasn't

What if you held a comic con… that wasn't?

That's what attendees and guests seem to have discovered at this weekend's Jack O' Con, which described itself;

JackO'Con is a comic, anime, horror, film and steampunk convention to be held for the first time ever at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albuquerque, NM from Halloween Oct 31st through Nov, 3rd 2013. The first big event of its kind in the area it promises to be a festive weekend of fantastic fun. Come out and meet the celebrity guests, artists, browse the vendors, check out the shows and have a blast.

On their Facebook page, on the 31st October, they posted;

ATTENTION ARTIST AND VENDORS….
We have been informed that the hotel is waiting on some getting some things for our AWESOME Convention and we will not be able to have anyone set up until the orginal time and date of Fri 10am to 2pm.. Please message Jenn McClendon Aguimatang with any questions.. Thank You for your patience.. If we have spoken with you about any special arrangements please also message Jenn .. We are so excited about this event and look forward to a great time with you all….

On the 1st…

The rumor is completely false, tonight is still happening as well as the whole weekend. 8-2 is concerts tonight, tomorrow and the rest of the days are vendors!

What rumour? Uh oh…

Despite any slander or bad mouthing we have a large positive response to our amazing Jack O Con.. We will NOT let negative people or rumors get in our way of having a great weekend.. We have a lot of exciting things happening.. We open the dealer room at 3pm today. We have a room packed full of Dealers, Artist, and Guest.. COME ON DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really? Then yesterday….

Due to unforeseen circumstances and other issues that can not be disclosed at this time, we regrettably were forced to shutdown Jack 'Ocon .

We appreciate all the hard work and dedication so many people put into this event.

Many people are asking about refunds, We will be working to resolve this and other issues in a timely manner.

Please bear with us while we sort everything out. While rumors going around about the reasons for the shut down please understand that the staff can not discuss anything during this time. One our legal people have told us the next stage we will keep you all posted. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Well, in the absence of facts, we resort to rumour and gossip. Reports are that the hotel basically ejected the entire convention.

Lucas CorVatta saying "Was interviewed earlier today by channel 4 news regarding Crown Plaza Hotel cancelling the #JackOCon event, leaving celebrities stranded, venders & attendees kick out… Not sure why there have been many rumors. They were religious, they homophobes, someone underage was drinking, no one seems to know why. What I do know is celebrities were told we had to check out with no explanation. Fortunately, I live in Santa Fe. Whatever reason, it was not good business."

Phineas T. Phobos says "If you wonder where some of the guests are it's because promoters for the show promised transportation and then didn't provide it. So no matter what they tell you the reason that guests didn't show up it's the promoters shady practices that are to blame."

Some are making the best of a bad lot.

Richard Hatch – Actor Hey Richard Hatch fans. Unfortunately, JackOCon was cancelled today. It is not known why. Richard is happy to have been able to meet a few fans and hopes to see the rest of you in the future. He's on his way home to rest up from the flu he's had before he heads off to HalCon next week. #richardhatch

Since the event was canceled, we have decided to have a store wide sale and sidewalk sale. The following message is what we put on our facebook and, so far, the only information we've put out:

this means that there really isn't much to do this weekend. So we decided to have a store sale as well as a side walk sale. There will be a few vendors setup outside and several sales in store. Sorry about the busted up event but hopefully you guys can still get some cool stuff or just come hang out!! We should have everything set up and ready to go around 11. Come check us out!
