Retro Tales Of Thor, The Rock Warrior

Jon Mikl ThorSimon Williams writes;

During my career, I’ve always been told that I have a retro/old-school feel to my artwork… something that I’m very proud of, although in this day and age it can affect ones career in comics. However, I believe there is room in the comics market for retro-style, FUN comics… and it was with this in mind that I came up with RETRO TALES. I thought to myself if that’s how my work is seen, why not go for it? I KNOW there are people out there who miss the retro-style comics of the 70s and 80s… and thus RETRO TALES was born! ” Produced under the RETRO COMICS GROUP name, this title will be a showcase for Simon’s creator-owned characters… the Discotronic Funk Commandos, whom he created way back in 1996!

There have been a few changes along the way… the Discotronic Funk Commandos are homages/parodies of the music of that era, and one character in particular proved a problem. The Captain Massachusetts character, who is based on Barry Gibb from the BEE GEES had to be replaced, due to the request of Barry Gibb and his management who didn’t want his likeness used in the comic (although Barry DID like the comic, which is a huge compliment!). This however has been the only negative so far, as the book as attracted the attention of several well known superstars… including David Hasselhoff and 80′s rock legend Jon Mikl Thor who will be appearing as guest-stars in the comicbook.

“I am on cloud nine working these guys… they are an absolute joy to collaborate with! I’m working with David on his upcoming comic-book/cartoon show THE HOFF: HEROES OF FEARLESS FREEDOM (the character will be debuting in RETRO TALES)… and with THOR on his upcoming album, THUNDERSTRYKE 2. I can honestly say that working with, getting to know and becoming friends with both of these superstars is definitely a career, and life highlight!” There will be more upcoming guest-stars in the book as well… including a WWF wrestling legend and the stars of a cult-80′s movie which can’t be announced yet.

RETRO TALES is due digitally for January 2014… and is currently pitching to various publishers for publication and distribution. Please check out www.retrocomicsgroup.co.uk for all the latest news.
