BC Mag #5: Life In The Gutters

rich_johnstonBleeding Cool Magazine article by Rich Johnston

Writers are often asked one repeated question from their readers… "Where do you get your stories from?" Alan Moore said that it's probably the most repeated question, but also one of the most important, as no writer really knows. Which is why Alan worships a Roman god exposed as a fraudulent puppet back in the second century. Well, the ideas have to come from somewhere.

I have an easier answer, because I know exactly where my stories come from. Usually from disaffected creators from corporate comics publishers, either annoyed at the kind of stories they are being told to create, frustrated with their fellow workers and not finding any other way to express that, or much more likely these days, exasperated that the company marketing machine is choosing to promote other people's work and not theirs. Especially when they really believe they have something important to say.
