New Stores Up One Percent – Live From The Chicago Diamond Retailer Summit

It's a small amount. But considering the drops of the last decade and a half, any increase has to be seen as a good thing. Announced at the Diamond Retailer Summit in Chicago, there are now one percent more comic stores now than this time last year. That could be as many as twenty. It's usually news that stores have closed, it's nice to see that for every comic store that is removed, one and a hundredth more will take its place.

Also, a Halloween equivalent for Free Comic Book Day is now definitely happening. Suggested at the New York Summit last year, there will be discounted Halloween comics, costume competitions and further promotions arranged.

And it's good news all over. Year on year, comic sales are up 14.8% with graphic novels up 6%, admittedly while other merchandise falls by 2.8%, with an overall sales increase of 7.3%. This is a good thing.

Currently the Diamond Retailer Olympics is occuring, both the bag and boarding time trails and the box building events have been successfully completed…
