Wednesday Runaround – Please Hire Me

Wednesday Runaround – Please Hire MeGutterWatch: Thank you Gutters. Most appreciated, Now please hire me.

ToyWatch: I was struck watching the Leveson inquiry yesterday, how much Nick Davies' relationship with ploce and police press officers reflected my own dealing with comic book creators and comic press officers. But I'm glad I don't cover the toy beat like Paul Nicholasi where I'd have to deal with Mattel…

I asked her to please go back and find me Rachel Cooper, with whom I made an appointment for this time. She returned minutes later looking very unhappy. "I'm very sorry. They say your appointment was at 1 and they are now packing everything up, so there is no way you could possibly shoot anything. I'm…very sorry." My poor receptionist looked down sheepishly, expecting to be yelled at. I told her I don't hold her responsible for this extremely unprofessional behavior, but I wanted to confirm she was indeed told to turn away someone with a legitimate appointment, accompanied by a reporter from MTV? She said yes. She was clearly not happy about it. I told her I was sorry she had to be the one on the receiving end of this, as Rachel could not be bothered to come out and tell me herself, but treating anyone like this was beyond unprofessional.

ArchieWatch: Peter S Svensson tells us;

Ralph Wiggum #1 – My store got three copies of issue one, each has Ralph saying something else. Besides "I'm a comic book!" you also have "I'm in mint conditioner!" and "It's my first tissue!"

Are there any more out there?

CentenaryWatch: How long will Morning Glories go on for? Nick Spencer answers;

Right now Morning Glories is planned for 100, but that's not set in stone yet. Last month I was convinced I wanted to push it to 150, just too much I want to do. But I also don't want to take people's patience for granted. I had to make a firm decision around end of the year, and I'm definitely curious whether or not the audience would be willing to go that long.

GameWatch: Play Avengers Alliance on Facebook. You know, Marvel registered trademarks for Avengers Alliance and Avengers Assemble around the same time…

Genderwatch: Whitby comic shop Comic Book Addiction is to run their first Women's Night on March 5th.

Elisabeth Pfeiffer, a Whitby resident and longtime comic book enthusiast who drops by the store at least once a week, says she enjoys discussing comics with guys but admits it can be limiting.

"When I raise issues related to feminism or where women may be sexually objectified, I have to explain myself first, rather than just go into the conversation about it," she says.

"A lot of women who are interested in comics know this stuff already and I find that guys don't see sexism as easily as women do."

EqyptWatch: Tomorrow from 6.30pm to 7.30pm in London, Egypt and Comics: Mythology and Pop Art Reflections at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, will explore how Egypt has been portrayed in comics, including Asterix, Tintin, Thundercats, Dr Fate, Promethea and Hawkman. Paul Harrison speaks.

Wednesday Runaround – Please Hire MeThis is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.

Happy Birthday Superman!

Why February 29? Editor Julie Schwartz declared that Superman's birthday was on February 29th in a number of letter pages during the Silver Age. Supposedly this is how Superman stays looking so young, after all he only has a birthday every four years!
