RIP John Severin | The Beat

Hall of Fame artist John Severin, one of the last of the legendary EC artists, has died at age 90. Severin—whose sister Marie was also a famed artist and colorist for Marvel—was among the greatest draftsmen of the EC crew.

Digital comic BEYOND THE FRINGE, based on the critically-acclaimed FOX TV show, will add a new roster of creators for upcoming issues 5a and 6a. Joining the book is seasoned writer Jhonen Vasquez, best known for his work on Nickelodeon's Emmy and Annie Award winning show Invader Zim, and comics JOHNNY THE HOMICIDAL MANIAC and STRANGE TALES. Vasquez will be joined by award-winning artist Becky Cloonan (AMERICAN VIRGIN, NORTHLANDERS and DEMO VOLS 1,2).

Geoff Johns Says a Great Superman Video Game Needs the "Right Studio"

There's been talk about adapting Johns' Last Son storyline—where Kryptonian villains escape the Phantom Zone dimensional prison to plague Superman—because it delivers enemies who are credible threats to Kal-El's power level. Cosmic tyrant Darkseid's also been floated as another big bad for Clark Kent to face off against. "I think all games come down to gameplay and the right studio. I'm sure the right studio could crack it. Rocksteady has a real passion for Batman, and I think that's why they make a great game."

ROOD: Yeah, per this reporting more lapsed than avid or more lapsed than the other two samples. Again, what we want to do over time with the help of Nielsen and retailers is find a study that is more representative overall. It will have to be an ongoing study that isn't just on Wednesdays, isn't just in September and isn't just around new #1 big and some passionate press activity. We're very pleased with the study but we can't suggest the results are representative until we do a consistent study with multiple data points and have a tracker over time.
