SmithWatch: Kevin Smith talks Comic Book Men… And Women.

"It's male-dominated media, and the readers are mostly dudes," he acknowledged. "The growth of independent comics has been great for people who don't want to tell stories about anyone in tights…more of that is what's going to bring in more women." And he praised Womanthology, the anthology collection of comics by women funded by Kickstarter and sold for charity. "It's such a great idea…You could go page by page and say this person should be working in the industry. This is a show about these four dudes who work in this store. There are no women [in the store] yet…There should be a Comic Book Women, and good willing, there'll be a spinoff Comic Book Women, and I'll make shit ton of money."

DuckWatch: On using Carl Barks to educate a new generation;

I started seeking out old Walt Disney comics to revive other lost memories and noticed that these comics were entertaining, even to my adult sensibilities. As a fledgling library director, I added them to the collection, and they were instantly popular.

Today, Carl Barks, the guy who drew those duck comics for Disney, is no more, but he still sells millions of comics and is the most popular author at our library. His books are used for Guys Read, too.

We created the Guys Read approach to reading seven years ago. All along it's relied on volunteer readers who donate a few lunch hours during February to spread the joy of reading to every public school in the borough. Almost every fourth grade boy attends voluntarily because it's fun. It's also a kick to see how excited the boys get about reading.

TCA: FX's 'Powers' Still in Limbo – Hollywood Reporter

"We didn't pick the pilot of Powers up; we went back and Chick Eglee, who had written it, did a fairly substantial rewrite that would require pretty extensive reshoots of the pilot," Landgraf said. "Right now we're in the process of deciding whether to pull the trigger on the reshoot."
