DC Talks New 52 To The Retailers, Live!

Right now, Dan DiDio, Jim Lee and Eddie Berganza are running the second of their New 52 panels at San Diego Comic Con. But I'm not there.

Instead, I've embedded myself in Direct Conversations, a meeting between DC Comics and comic book retailers about what's coming up with the publisher, and their relationship with the direct market. Bob Wayne, Adam Philips and Hank Kanalz from DC with David Steinberg from comiXology. A condensed version of the presentation that the retauler roadshow with a few differences.

Including a mock up cover of old DC costumed characters protesting, much as people are planning to do tomorrow. See, I told you DC would be happy with the protests.

DC have been emphasising reaching existing, lapsed and new readers through advertising and marketing – including "those who have given you the most grief when you come into the store."

The MCM Cinema Network co-op deal is approaching the end of eligibility however, a 30 second ad with a 10 second tag on the end for specific retailers who pay 25% of the cost, when the ads appear in local cinemas. Bob Wayne told retailers that if they want to participate, they should do so on returning home.

Bob Wayne stated that preorders have been heavy of late, with Midtown Comics in New York reporting getting six weeks worth of pre orders in one week, as the DC New 52 soliciatations came out.

The panel hen moved to Comixology's presentation. More on that later…
