Crowdfunder: The Pride by Dale Lazarov

The Pride is a six issue comic mini-series about a superhero team who form to show the world they are not a joke — that they are just as amazing as any other superheroes. They fight, protect the universe, rescue kittens from trees, banter and bicker like the best of them. The thing is, they all came together as a team because they're gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender superheroes…and they're looking for your help on Crowdfunder, the non-US-only Kickstarter clone.

Created by relative newcomers to comics, writer Joe Glass, artist Gavin Mitchell and colorist Kris Carter are essentially making comic about how superhero comics' excitement and spectacle represent the best and worst in humanity to challenge prejudice and oppression — something that's been part of the genre since the early days of Superman kicking the asses of wife beaters.

The LGBT heroes point out that they are "for everyone", not just LGBT people. And writer Joe Glass states that the comic is aimed at the same audience — everyone.

The Pride have been lucky enough to get picked up by a publisher in the form of UK indie press Deadstar Publishing; however, they are looking for help with funding the production of the comic, creating advertising, and reaching out for guest artists to participate project, which already has attracted contributions from Marc Ellerby and Josh Smith.

There are, of course, rewards for those who fund the comic through Crowdfunder, and, as you can see from these sample pages, it's really well drawn and written. You can also get a copy of a special preview book containing The Pride as well as a preview of Glass' other project, Stiffs. It's available from Joe Glass' blog or at the Bristol Comics and Small Press Expo this weekend.
