Ron Marz Kicks Off #ROBOCHARITY In Response To Robocop Statue Furore

Ron Marz Kicks Off #ROBOCHARITY In Response To Robocop Statue FuroreThis is the tweet that started it all from comic book writer Ron Marz, in response to the news that Kickstarter folks had raised enough money to build a Robocop statue in Detroit. Ron Marz wrote;

Boy, glad they raised over $50K for a Robocop statue, instead of something really stupid and useless, like funding a soup kitchen.

Detroit is a city with many problems, poverty and crime amongst them, which is one of the reasons it was chosen for the Robocop movie in the first place.

And as the critics poured in, Ron stood his ground.

I'd argue that in an economically-blighted place like Detroit, feeding people is more important than nerds getting a statue.

But soon enough he'd found an accord with his critics. And a plan was hatched.

Because I have a big mouth, I tweeted that $50K for the Robocop statue in Detroit was kinda dumb when people are hungry.

@garywhitta tweeted that whimsy has its value. In ensuing discussion Gary said he'd kick in $50 for a food charity if I would.

So that's what's happening. We're each donating $50 to @forgottnharvest to help feed those in need in Detroit. #robocharity

We're hoping some others will do the same. Need not be $50. Any amount is great. Hope some comic/geek sites pick this up. #robocharity

Your wish is our command Ron Marz. After all, if Bleeding Cool is going to be a stupid, lazy ill-informed as you suggest, it might as well be for a good cause. And here's the place to do it.
