DC Comics seeks an Editor for the DC Editorial department. Position manages a line of editorial product within the DC Universe imprint.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs full editorial function for a minimum of 5 monthly titles.
• Manages the creative process from conception through publication. Ensures that schedules and budgets are met and product quality is at or above DC’s standards. Seeks ways to keep ongoing series fresh and exciting.
• Identifies and develops new editorial products for the DC Universe.
• Identifies potential new talent and maintains relationships with current talent.
• Ensures that other DC staff members have the materials required to maximize service to the product.
• Supervises and develops junior staff members.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• BA/BS degree in English, Journalism or Art preferred.
• 3-5 years editorial experience, comic books/graphic novels preferred.
• Ability to manage a creative team.
• Knowledge of comic book industry strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of art (ability to discuss composition, design, etc…) required.
• Copyediting and proofreading skills preferred.
• Ability to meet deadlines required.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing required.
• Ability for some light travel strongly preferred.

DC Comics seeks an Assistant Editor for the DC Editorial department. Position performs Asst Editor Responsibilities for the Archives Group.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Copyedit and proofread books to ensure accuracy.
• Assists Editor in all aspects of the creation of a archival or special projects.
• Interacts with freelancers and various departments to ensure that the books are moving through the appropriate departments as scheduled.
• Provides administrative and clerical support to Editor (copying, writing text, filing, compiling assets/reference and monitoring deadlines.)
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

DC Entertainment seeks a Creative Director for the DCE Entertainment department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews scripts for designated live-action features and television programs that are in production as assigned to by the CCO. Provides notes regarding character usage and makes recommendations for modification as appropriate. Works directly with WBTV and networks to implement modifications.
• Brainstorm on overall DCE creative plans and strategies across all platforms including theatrical, television, animation, video games and publishing.
• Reviews scripts for designated live-action features and television programs that are in production as assigned to by the CCO. Provides notes regarding character usage and makes recommendations for modification as appropriate. Works directly with WBTV and networks to implement modifications.
• Reviews treatments and scripts submitted in project development phase. Makes notes regarding character usage and story lines in order to recommend whether the project should proceed.
• Reviews archives for under-utilized assets and/or in order to capitalize on market trends and popularity are raised.
• Ensures that design materials for live-action projects are reviewed by relevant DCEW staff and assist in the resolution of any concerns that arise.
• Represent DCE in local meeting regarding theatrical and television projects (both internally and with the entities producing the projects (i.e., HBO, WB Animation, WHV).
• Manages performance of Creative Associate.
• Ensures that editorial projects and titles tied to theatrical, television, animation, games, and digital projects are reviewed by relevant DCE staff and assist in the resolution of any concerns that are raised.
• Works directly with Editorial and Creative Services Executive Director to ensure all appropriate creative materials and reference are exchanged between departments.
• Represents DCE at conventions in order to recruit new talent and build relationships in the creative community.
• Researches and coordinates various projects as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Platform specific acumen required (Film, TV, Animation, Digital, Video Games).
• TV development/production 3+ years required.
• Creative writing experience (5+ years). Published with DC Comics a plus.
• Experience with writing entertainment treatments/scripts/outlines/concept documents required.
• Experience presenting and pitching ideas, stories and characters required.
• Experience providing notes on scripts required.
• Previous experience managing others strongly preferred.
• Experience with character story and property long-term planning required.
• Extensive working knowledge of and passion for DC characters and properties.
• Ability to create and develop written materials based on DC characters and concepts.
• Must be a conceptual thinker.
• Proven collaborative and relationship building skills.
• Familiarity with current projects a plus.
• Ability to creatively brainstorm characters and ideas required.
