Must Graphic.Ly Now Abide By Sharia Law?

Must Graphic.Ly Now Abide By Sharia Law?Okay, this is an interesting one.

The internet domain suffix ".ly" is used by all sorts of people as a kind of pun, creating an adjective out of a domain name. Such as the URL-shortener Bit.ly or the digital comics distributor/reader Graphic.ly.

But what exactly does the suffix mean? Well, it's a geographical location, namely the country Libya. Yes, that's right, that Libya.

And the country's domain registrar has started closed down said domains for websites that, apparently, fall outside the country's law – which derives from Islamic Sharia tradition – the URL shortner vb.ly took the hit, it seems for allowing people to shorten the URLs of pornographic sites.

And it's quite possible that one or two comic books distributed by Graphic.ly might fall into that interpretation by some. And while the company also has the URL graphicly.com – all their promotional materials does not.

Digital nightmare!
