DC Stops Seeing The Shrink

DC Stops Seeing The ShrinkCurrently all DC hardcovers are shrinkwrapped when shipped to stores. It stops the books from being damaged  – but also being browsed through. Sometimes both at the same time.

For some titles, shops will create a "store browsing copy" which will get thumbed and knocked about before the potential purchaser puts down the money for a shrink wrapped copy, but many can't afford to do that.

Well, if the book costs leas than $50, I understand that all copies will now become browsing copies – DC has told retailers that they will only shrinkwrap books with a recommended retail price of $50 or more, starting in December.

Of course that won't stop retailers shrinkwrapping their own books if they so wish. And there's always the possibility of more damages being called in when the books arrive… just how much of a saving will it be?
