In book circles, this is big news. This is a big thing. Also, Alan Moore is travelling abroad, which is not something he does a lot. Admittedly, it is only to Scotland. Still. Here are both listings. Steve Bell is also a principle influence on me and I grew up basicaly tracing his work…

Widely credited with having reinvented superheroes for a modern audience, Alan Moore's legendary cartoons include Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell. But Moore's relationship with the American comics industry is uneasy to say the least, and he prefers not to be associated with many of the film versions of his books. Nevertheless, Moore has become one of the most widely admired comic book writers of recent times. We are delighted that he is joining us in Edinburgh for a conversation with Steve Bell – another legendary cartoonist with a very different approach – to discuss superheroes, politics and the influence of writers such as Philip K Dick, William Burroughs and Thomas Pynchon.

Over the course of today, renowned author and screenwriter Charlie Fletcher has been leading Story Machines, a 'mini-festival' looking at the impact of stories on our understanding of the world. In this final event of the day, Fletcher brings together some of the day's participants including William Nicholson and Alan Moore for a debate about the power of Story, and how we can put our storytelling powers to better use.
