Palmiotti And Young Get Into Bed For Fun-Size Kickstart Comics (UPDATE)
Variety are running the story that AiT/Planet Lar's Larry Young, Event Comics' Jimmy Palmiotti and movie producer Jason Netter with a large number of comics-to-film projects under is belt, are forming Kickstart Comics.
Part of existing Kickstart Entertainment, the most exciting news is that the newline comics, four a month, will be distributed into the mainstream market, including Wal Mart. And it all starts this autumn. I understand they also include Best Buy and Barnes and Noble.
Walmart will be giving separate shelf space to Kickstart in different media departments. The books are being published at a smaller size to accommodate different sized-racks. Kickstart Comics will be distributed directly to the big chain stores, and separately to comic stores through Diamond.
Books include Bad Guys by Phil Eisner, Rift Raiders from Mark Sable and Julian Totino Tedesco, Adam Freeman and Marc Bernardin's Hero Complex and Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett's Witch .
Netter, Palmiotti and Justin Gray had already been behind Image titles such as Splatterman/Random Acts Of Violence.
What are the odds they'll have a big booth at San Diego? Let's have a look… nothing listed. Not yet, anyway. I wonder if Image will shove up and give them a spot. Possibly not now…
