Samuel Bayer Wants To Direct The Boys

Samuel Bayer Wants To Direct The BoysThis is the kind of news that should make the DC High Five squirm.

The Boys was the Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson comic book that was initially published by DC/Wildstorm, thanks to the intervention of new co-Publisher Dan DiDio.  But despite selling well, indeed putting on sales, it was cancelled by the intervention of ex-Publisher/President Paul Levitz, who disliked the treatment of DC superhero analogues in the comic. The book was allowed to go to Dynamite (but not Marvel or IDW) to be published further, where the comic has gone from strength to strength.

And now new Nightmare Of Elm Street director Sam Bayer is talking about what he wants to work on next.

Yeah, I'm catching my breath but I've been offered some stuff. There's one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that's bad-ass. I'd like to get it, it's called The Boys. It's about a group of mercenaries and they're job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn't get any better than that. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like "The Dark Knight." There are some great books I don't think people have tapped into yet.

Can'y you just picture Jim Lee standing there arms outstretched saying "The one that got away… it was this big."
