Chase Variant is a new oneshot comic book written by me, Rich Johnston, featuring the drop-dead gorgeous artwork of Saverio Tenuta and Bagwell. See for yourself…
It’s a balls-to-the-walls action adventure featuring an armed-to-the-teeth multilimbed assassin being hunted down for her genetic assets. While simultaneously her world is formed and shaped by a card game played by unseen assailants. It’s a dark comedy drama that mixed Michael Bay and René Descartes, Tomb Raider and Annie Hall, to create a comic book with some new tricks up its sleeve. Chase Variant. Just as with Watchmensch and Doctor Who: A Room With A Deja View, I’m trying to find a new way to tell comic stories but exploiting the excessives of the old ways.
Saverio Tenata is best known for his work for Heavy Metal. Living in South America, his painted comic book work is energetic and detailed. While Bagwell, currently living in Korea uses digital methods to create equisite painted artwork from the ether for 2000AD. This is both their first work for Image Comics. And neither me, Saverio or Bagwell have ever met.
The 4th of February is that last chance for retailers to order copies of the comic before Image set the print run. Basically, if you want a copy, you must tell your retailer by that day.
Equally if retailers would like to be able to get copies of the Chase Variant variant cover by Rob Liefeld, with a 1:10 distribution, they must make that order by the same day.
