As the “Stephen King-ification” of the world rolls along, HBO‘s series adaptation of the author’s bestselling supernatural novel The Outsider just boosted it’s directorial “street cred.” Andrew Bernstein (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Umbrella Academy) is on board to direct several episodes (along with executive producer Jason Bateman) and serve as executive producer. With Ben Mendelsohn set […]

The new, longer trailer for The World's End offers some answers and poses some all new, apocalyptic questions. I take a look at 12 things about it.
A sci-fi comedy drama about a pub crawl. British film, you say?
Widdle Pegg and Widdle Frost and their Widdle Friends.
There’s not a lot that couldn’t be improved by adding a little Paddy Considine. Apart from, you know, a salad, or something. And some things would have absolutely fallen apart without him. Superb, then, that Variety have reported, and on his birthday no less, that Considine has joined Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End. They have […]
I intended to file this story after my previous BAFTA post, but the day got away with me. Still, while I’ve been detained, things have only stepped up a gear. Missing conspicuously from this year’s BAFTA nominations was Olivia Colman, the female lead in Tyrannosaur, and probably best known for her TV work with Mitchell […]
Going into tonight’s British Independent Film Awards, Shame, Tyrannosaur and Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy were leading the pack with seven nominations apiece. Coming out… not so even anymore. So, from the BIFA press release, if you’ll pardon the SHOUTY formatting. BEST BRITISH INDEPENDENT FILM – TYRANNOSAUR BEST DIRECTOR – Lynne Ramsay – WE NEED TO […]
If you have even a smidgen of taste in comedy then you’ll already be familiar with Olivia Colman, who played Mark’s on-off (mostly off) girlfriend in Peep Show, PC Doris Thatcher in Hot Fuzz and harassed mum-of-many Harriet Schulenberg in Green Wing. Lately, however, Colman’s career has begun to move into more serious drama with […]
For Independence Day 2011, I’m devoting my film stories on Bleeding Cool to things from the UK. It’s partly a practical measure – there’s nothing much going on in the US, except for parties and fireworks. it’s also just, you know, a bit novel. We’ll start with something of a picture post. Don’t worry – […]
Blitz was written by Nathan Parker, the screenwriter of Moon, directed by Elliott Lesser, whose Love is the Drug I have not seen, and stars Paddy Considine and Jason Statham. Between the four of them they’ve rounded up a whole heap of swears, smothered them in some dirty fighting and stuffed this Red Band trailer […]
Paddy Considine is currently at Sundance for the premiere of his feature-length directorial debut, Tyrannosaur. The film is proving to be a critical hit, and a number of exciting, positive reviews have popped up. While Total Film haven’t published their verdict on the film yet, they have, however, scraped their Considine interview for newsy quotes, and […]
Our next exposure to the work of actor-writer-director Peter Mullan will be NEDS, his third feature as director after Orphans and The Magdalene Sisters. It’s a period gang drama about Glasgow juvenile delinquents, and looks to be extremely potent stuff. The Telegraph have spoken to Mullan about the film, and I’ll recommend you read their […]
Here comes your first spritz of Blitz. This is our second trailer for a film based upon the works of Ken Bruen today*. I’m a bit jollier this time, though, as this comes from Nathan Parker, the screenwriter of Moon. Amongst the cast are Paddy Considine and David Morrissey and… um… The Stath. The director […]
