"Chapelwaite": "Schitt's Creek" Star Emily Hampshire Joins EPIX's Stephen King/"Jerusalem's Lot" Series Adapt

Been awhile since we had some news to report on EPIX's upcoming drama based on Stephen King's 1978 short story "Jerusalem's Lot". In fact, it was a little over two months ago when we learned the project received a straight-to-series order, with Adrien Brody (The Pianist) cast as lead Capt. Charles Boone. Now, the series is finding itself up Schitt's Creek – and it doesn't need a paddle – with series star Emily Hampshire set for the female lead opposite Brody in Chapelwaite (the series official name).

Set in the 1850s, Chapelwaite follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher's Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family's sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.

Hampshire's Rebecca Morgan is an ambitious young woman who left Preacher's Corners to attend Mount Holyoke College, and has returned home with an advance to write a story for the new and prestigious Atlantic Magazine. Her writer's block lifts when Boone arrives in town with his children – and despite her mother's protests, Rebecca applies to be governess of the infamous Chapelwaite manor and the Boone family in order to write about them. In doing so, Rebecca will not only craft the next great gothic novel, she'll unravel a mystery that has plagued her own family for years.

With a Fall 2020 premiere targeted, production on the 10-episode series will begin in April in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The series is executive produced in-house by Epix Productions. Donald De Line (Ready Player One, Wayward Pines) will serve as executive producer, with Jason Filardi and Peter Filardi serving as showrunners and executive producers.

"This series is an intense, absolutely terrifying reimagining of classic gothic horror. We can't wait to work with the exceptional team of Donald De Line and Jason and Peter Filardi, along with our phenomenal lead actor, Adrien Brody…and of course, when it comes to horror, it doesn't get any better or more masterful than Stephen King. We're thrilled to be the home to this incredible show."

The short story "Jerusalem's Lot" was first published in King's 1978 short story collection Night Shift (later published in the illustrated edition of Salem's Lot), and will serve as the source material for the series. Set in the 1850s, the drama is set to follow Capt. Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the sleepy town of Preacher's Corners, Maine, after his wife dies at sea. Soon, Capt. Boone finds himself confronting the secrets of his family's sordid history, fighting to end the darkness that has plagued them for generations.
