Military Wives Choir Singing at Leicester Square Ahead Of Tonight's Premiere

Tonight sees the world premiere of Military Wives, the new movie that basically looks like the next chapter of The Full Monty/Brassed Off/Billy Elliot/Calendar Girls/Kinky Boots/Swimming With Men franchise. A creative project taken on by amateurs, born out of the stresses of their lives, and starring a murderer's row of British actors and comedians.

Anyway, the choir that the movie is based on have been performing around London ahead of tonight's Wolrd Premiere at the Empire in Leicester Square. And fortuitously I was cycling past while they were breaking out in song, on my way to a screening of Marjane Satrapi's Radioactive. But I was able to whip my phone out… it takes a wee while for the choir to kick in.

Military Wives is directed by Peter Cattaneo, from a screenplay by Rosanne Flynn and Rachel Tunnard. It stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Sharon Horgan and Jason Flemyng and is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on 6 March by Lionsgate and in the US on the 27th March.

With their partners away serving in Afghanistan, a group of women on the home front form a choir and quickly find themselves at the center of a media sensation and global movement. The film was inspired by the true story of the Military Wives Choirs, a network of 75 choirs in British military bases across the UK and overseas, featured in the UK television series The Choir. Here are a couple of trailers.
