ESL Pro League Reportedly Locked Teams In For Three Years

A lot of eyes are going to be on the ESL Pro League for a while when it comes to contracts after the latest move by the organization. According to DBLTAP, after the announcement was made that the ESL had locked in 24 teams into Season 11 of the CS:GO league, a new separate deal was made that secured 13 of those teams in three-year deals, which could possibly extend to six years. Here's a snippet from the article.

ESL announced Tuesday the 24 teams that will participate in ESL Pro League Season, including the 13 "member" teams and 11 others based on the Season 10 results, Mountain Dew League, and ESL world rankings. Just after that announcement, a separate one was made with regards to the 13 member teams that they have dubbed the "Louvre Agreement" and published on their website. Those teams include Astralis, Complexity, ENCE, Evil Geniuses, FaZe Clan, Fnatic, G2 Esports, Mousesports, Natus Vincere, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Liquid, Team Vitality, and 100 Thieves.

Basically, the deal guarantees that even if the league somehow suffers from some issues, there will be at least three more seasons with guaranteed teams participating. And if the company managed to hit specific goals within the organization, those deals will increase to six to assure those teams continue to help with the league's growth. As a side effect of the new deals, the WESA will no longer be involved. Depending on where you stand when it comes to esports contracts, this is either highly risky for the teams and players involved and could get messy down the road if there's a dispute, or this is a step toward normalizing modern-day esports by making the Pro League as secure as one would see the NBA. Season 11 of the ESL Pro League will kick off on March 16th, 2020.
