"New Amsterdam" Season 2 "Sabbath": Can Max Pull Off Medical & Financial Miracles? [PREVIEW]

We wrote last week about how NBC's New Amsterdam always seems to find new ways to punch us in our "feels" – but last week's "In the Graveyard" took things to a whole new level. It wasn't that Floyd (Jocko Sims), Helen (Freema Agyeman), Vijay (Anupam Kher), and more didn't have their own problems to face – it's just that they needed to be shifted to the back-burner once they (and we) met the patients in Max's (Ryan Eggold) makeshift palliative unit.

Just don't make us remember the snow scene again… *sniff*

Which brings us to this week's "Sabbath", which finds Max trying to work financial magic once again, Iggy (Tyler Labine) going with his instincts, and Bloom (Janet Montgomery)  gets an unexpected faily reunion. Meanwhile, a mysterious illness finds a woman losing her ability to move as her body begins shutting down – and the team finds itself racing the clock to save her life:

"New Amsterdam" season 2, episode 14 "Sabbath": Max races against the clock to rearrange the budget when faced with employees going unpaid, while Kapoor is presented with a device that's the future of medicine. Meanwhile, Iggy goes against the norms to prove a diagnosis and Bloom gets an unexpected visitor. Guest starring Gina Gershon.

"New Amsterdam" Season 2 "Sabbath": Can Max Pull Off Medical & Financial Miracles? [PREVIEW]

In the wake of the ambulance crash that ended season one of "New Amsterdam," medical director Dr. Max Goodwin must grieve the death of someone close to him while continuing his commitment to solve systemic health care issues at the hospital. Add his new responsibilities as a father and his cancer still lingering in the rear-view mirror, everyone around Max has to wonder how long he can sustain this impossible load. But, "How can I help?" is not just Max's catchphrase, it's his reason for living. As long as he's helping others, he's able to find hope in the most hopeless of places.

The NBC series stars Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, Tyler Labine, and Anupam Kher. Series creator David Schulner executive produces alongside Peter Horton, Michael Slovis, and David Foster. Universal Television, Pico Creek Productions, and Mount Moriah share production.

New Amsterdam is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer's memoir Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital and his 15 years as medical director at the hospital.
