"The Goonies" Meta Re-Enactment Pilot Truffle Shuffles Way to FOX

So we know that there's a lot of you out there who love The Goonies (more of a The Monster Squad fan here, personally) – but how many of you would watch a reboot or reimaginig of it?

Okay – now how many of you would watch a "meta" series where the actual film itself serves as the basis for a drama about hope, redemption, and realizing one's dreams?

Well, FOX and Sarah Watson (The Bold Type, Parenthood) are hoping a lot of you get the premise (substitute teacher helps students film shot-by-shot remake of The Goonies) and tune in, with the network giving a pilot order to the untitled drama from Warner Bros. TV, FOX's SideCar, and Amblin TV.

With Watson set to write the pilot and Greg Mottola (Superbad, The Newsroom) directing, here's a look at the official overview of the pilot:

"After failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret with her, Stella Cooper returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of their favorite movies —The Goonies. Over the course of the season of the potential series, their passion will inspire a town in desperate need of hope in this love letter to the power of cinema, storytelling and dreams."

Mottola is set to executive produce alongside SideCar's Gail Berman, Lauren Shuler Donner, Richard Donner, and Amblin's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. Steven Spielberg and Donner's adventure-comedy film was originally released in 1985, growing a strong following over the years and securing a prominant spot on the pop culture landscape. Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Cohen, and Jonathan Ke Huy Quan starred in the film.
