"The Man from Toronto": Jason Statham, Kevin Hart in Talks for Sony's Latest Action Comedy

Kevin Hart is the go-to man when it comes to comic relief in the action buddy genre. Just ask Dwayne Johnson. Sony Pictures is trying to pair him with Jason Statham for their latest action-comedy The Man from Toronto. The film reunites Statham with his The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes, according to Variety.

Other Work

Hughes comes off his success of 2017's Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson action-comedy The Hitman's Bodyguard for Lionsgate. The film grossed an estimated $180 million globally at the box office. He recently completed shooting its upcoming sequel The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard currently in post-production. Robbie Fox pens the screenplay and co-wrote the story with Jason Blumenthal. Blumenthal produces with Steve Tisch and Escape Artists' Todd Black.

Hart's coming off the success of the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level with the aforementioned Johnson. The Sony film made $738 million globally to date at the box office. He also reprised his role in The Secret Life of Pets 2, which made $429 million for Universal. He co-starred with Tiffany Haddish in the Universal comedy Night School. The 40-year old comedian chronicled his own life in the Netflix documentary series Kevin Hart: Don't F*** This Up. Hart's next film won't be released until January 15th, 2021 when he stars in Sony's Fatherhood.

Statham reprised his role as Shaw in Universal's Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which featured Hart in an uncredited cameo. The film made an estimated $759 million globally at the box office. The 52-year old actor hasn't been as active as Hart with 2018's The Meg and 2017's The Fate of the Furious aside from the franchise's spinoff film. He recently completed filming Guy Ritchie's Cash Truck for United Artists with current no release date set.

If both sign on to The Man from Toronto, what do you think the chances are Johnson making a cameo?
