SAG Awards 2020 TV Winners – "Game of Thrones", "The Crown", Phoebe Waller-Bridge & More: How "Can't Miss" Were Bleeding Cool's Picks?

Welcome to the results of Bleeding Cool's "Can't Miss" SAG Awards picks!

Now for those of you who checked out our Golden Globes picks, you know that it was a bit of a rollercoaster run. So much so that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and I are on a bit of "time out". It's cool… we talked it over… we thought it might be better if I started seeing other awards shows.

Which brings us to the 26th Annual SAG Awards – a completely different mindset to get into than the HFPA's (also less scary and a smidge more sober). Since it's actors giving awards to other actors for their work, there's an assumption that thes awards have a bit more "legitimacy" to them. Thus, the "Screen Actors Guild" name.

One of the awards season's premier events, the SAG Awards annually celebrates the outstanding motion picture and television performances from the previous calendar year. Of the top industry honors presented to actors, only the SAG Awards are selected entirely by performers' peers in SAG-AFTRA. The SAG Awards was the first televised awards show to acknowledge the work of union members and the first to present awards to motion picture casts and television ensembles. The SAG Awards benefits the nonprofit SAG-AFTRA Foundation that provides a vital safety net, emergency assistance, and education resources to performing artists, and its children's literacy program Storyline Online®.

Now here's a look at who won – and I left in who I thought would win as well as some new, post-win "Devil's Advocate" thoughts to either show how wise I am – or wear my badge of shame with honor.

● Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series [-1]

Big Little Lies

The Crown [WINNER]

● Game of Thrones

The Handmaid's Tale

Stranger Things

Devil's Advocate: As I said in my original predictions post, I found the overall category lackluster. Would've been nice to see Game of Thrones walk away with a final win, but The Crown wave has been growing for some time now.

● Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series [-1]

Barry

● Fleabag

The Kominsky Method

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel [WINNER]

Schitt's Creek

Devil's Advocate: Wow. Not saying that the show's not popular, but definitely saw this as only being a race between Fleabag and Schitt's Creek. Nothing I'll lose sleep over, but Fleabag's cast leaves a better impression on me.

● Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series [-1]

● Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us

Steve Carell, The Morning Show

Billy Crudup, The Morning Show

Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones [WINNER]

David Harbour, Stranger Things

Devil's Advocate: Glad to be wrong on this one – not easy to be seen as the "main character" in a cast that huge, but Dinklage always stood out.

● Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series [+1]

● Jennifer Aniston, The Morning Show [WINNER]

Helena Bonham Carter, The Crown

Olivia Colman, The Crown

Jodie Comer, Killing Eve

Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid's Tale

Devil's Advocate: Consider this Aniston's "Welcome Back" win – not surprised and well-deserved, for a series that showed serious growth as it went along.

● Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series [-1]

Alan Arkin, The Kominsky Method

Michael Douglas, The Kominsky Method

● Bill Hader, Barry

Andrew Scott, Fleabag

Tony Shalhoub, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel [WINNER]

Devil's Advocate: All due respect to Shalhoub, Hader is the central force in his series more than the other nominees. Not completely thrilled with this one…

● Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series [+1]

Christina Applegate, Dead to Me

Alex Borstein, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Catherine O'Hara, Schitt's Creek

● Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag [WINNER]

Devil's Advocate: Fleabag was Waller-Bridge's on both sides of the camera – well-deserved.

● Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries [-1]

Mahershala Ali, True Detective

Russell Crowe, The Loudest Voice

● Jared Harris, Chernobyl

Jharrel Jerome, When They See Us

Sam Rockwell, Fosse/Verdon [WINNER]

Devil's Advocate: A pleasant surprise on a personal level even if I take the prediction hit, really excited to see Rockwell also getting recognition for Fosse/Verdon.

● Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries [+1]

Patricia Arquette, The Act

Toni Collette, Unbelievable

Joey King, The Act

Emily Watson, Chernobyl

● Michelle Williams, Fosse/Verdon [WINNER]

Devil's Advocate: So deserving – hope she sticks to television. The long-form approach to storytelling and the diversity in themes that networks, cable, and streaming has to offer is unmatched.

● Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series [+1]

● Game of Thrones [WINNER]

GLOW

Stranger Things

The Walking Dead

Watchmen

Devil's Advocate: Game of Thrones needed two episodes just to list all of the stunt people from this past season, so glad to see it was given its just-do.

● SAG Life Achievement Award Recipient/Presenter [+1]

● Robert De Niro / ● Leonardo DiCaprio [WINNER]

Devil's Advocate: Nailed it! ;)
