REVIEW: Killadelphia #2 — "Every Good Part … Is Met By A Moment That Makes You Say, 'Wait, What?'"

(Image Comics, creative team: Rodney Barnes, Jason Shawn Alexander, Luis NCT, Marshall Dillon)

Okay. There are a lot of things to like about this book. It has a distinctive, almost seductive visual style that is not very far from Black Monday Murders. If that was your jam, this will likely scratch a similar itch. The dialogue is very easy to follow and has a great rhythm to it, like the good seasons of Law and Order with Jerry Orbach. The characters seem legitimately concerned with what's happening, and that drives their actions in away that's believable despite the fantastic nature of their circumstances. That's all good. What's hard to take is President John Adams, immortal vampire lord and mastermind of a conspiracy to reform the country as a vampire feeding ground, taking disaffected inner city youth as his top lieutenants. Even without the shellacking his name has taken in pop culture, he was more based in Massachusetts and presents a number of weird elements with his "Jeff Bridges in Iron Man 1 meets Stephen Dorff in Blade 1" stylings. Every good part of this book is met by a moment that makes you say, "wait, what?" If this all somehow comes together in the trade, it'd be something to see. From here, that destination seems pretty hard to reach. RATING: MEH.
