REVIEW: Reaver #6 — "So Much Blood You'd Think This Was A Horror Comic"

Image Comics, creative team: Justin Jordan, Rebekah Isaacs, Alex Guimares, Clayton Cowles

To say that this is a big finale would be an understatement. There is so much blood that you'd think this was a horror comic, but no, it's just the inevitable and well-earned last chapter of a bigger story. Only one character here gets any time for development (and what a surprise that is) as competing forces go to blades and make with the melee. After the stellar debut, though, this issue really felt like it should have been part of an original graphic novel instead of a standalone comic book. The artwork from Isaacs, Guimares and Cowles remained powerful and clear (even that one bit in the pool of blood, which could have been much harder to decipher like most of those Carnage books), but Jordan's script didn't have time left in this volume to add resonance to many of the events that happened here, kind of like the battle against the Cinder King on Critical Role, which was less resonant than the battle that followed. There's no way this could be called a bad book, but it's not reaching the heights its debut achieved. RATING: HONORABLE MENTION.
