Dynamite’s Valentine’s Day Variant Covers are a Love Letter to… Mary Jane?!

As we all know, the best way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is with variant covers. Not only do they serve as a great gift for your significant other, but if you’re single, you can just get one of those booby ones from a publisher like Boundless to keep yourself… er… company during the holiday.

Dynamite knows what’s up in this regard, which is why they’re releasing a series of Valentine’s-Day-themed variant covers this February, which will be featured on four comics releasing that month. From a press release:

February is just around the corner, and love is in the air! To celebrate the season of flirty fun, Dynamite is releasing a curated selection of themed variant covers by fan-favorite artists for fans to collect.

These special covers feature on Death to the Army of Darkness #1, Vampirella/Red Sonja #6, Red Sonja #13 and Dejah Thoris #3. Sebastián Píriz (Six Million Dollar Man) tackles the first, homaging a timeless classic with Ash taking on quite the handsy deadite bride. Ilustrator Lynne Yoshii (Gotham City Garage) has Red Sonja providing some platonic protection for her latest loved one. While Superstar Sanya Anwar (Assassin’s Creed) pulls double duty with two separate picture-perfect portrayals of the Women of Dynamite, one of which checks off a bucket list item for her.

But maybe you should think twice about giving one of these to your significant other after all, because these variant covers all seem to be in love with another. Specifically, Marvel Comics star Mary Jane Watson, as each cover homages a classic cover (or in one case panel) featuring MJ.

Does Dynamite have a secret crush? Let us know what you think of the covers in the comments.

About Jude Terror

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.
