Former Blizzard Reps Discuss Ending "Heroes Of The Storm" Esports

Ever since Blizzard made the call last year to scale back on Heroes Of The Storm, many fans have been left wondering why it all went down. Nearly one year later, we're getting a better picture as to what happened and why. Inven Global has a brand new story up in which they speak with a few former Blizzard employees (most who were laid off earlier this year), who reveal what was going on behind the scenes. According to the accounts, it seems there was a big disconnect between the PR departments and the esports team. And while there were concerns over the budget, everyone assumed the league would go probably one more year before getting their budget cut in 2020.

But apparently the decision to end HGC and cut down on Heroes Of The Storm on all fronts was made by the executives, and that not even people directly involved with the product knew about until the day the news came out. It's a very eye-opening piece where you can see the staff at Blizzard, both past and present, are super passionate about their work and care about what's happening from the product down to the players. Yet at the same time, it shows there are gaps in communication from the top brass when it comes to decision making, leaving the staff to scramble and deal with the chaos, bad publicity, and additional fallout afterward. We'll see if Blizzard responds to the piece or if they decide to change course on Heroes Of The Storm after this. There are still many fans who would love to see the game receive a revival.
