BlizzCon 2019 Interview: Angela Sarafyan From "Westworld"

As we play a bit of catchup to our time at BlizzCon 2019, we had a chance to chat with actress Angela Sarafyan of Westworld fame at the event. Sarafyan is a huge World Of Warcraft fan and player, but this turned out to be her first time ever visiting BlizzCon. Not to mention the first time she played a Diablo game as she got to try out Diablo IV. We got to chat with her for a few minutes as she visited the Blizzard Arcade, where they showed off all of their retro content being re-released in Hall E.

BC: How was your experience so far?

Sarafyan: It's really fun. I've had such a good time. I've played World of Warcraft but never played Diablo, and I think I'd love that game.

So you've played Diablo IV now?

Yeah. Just upstairs, I learned to play it.

Are you excited about the new expansion coming to Warcraft?

Yes!

What did you think of the gameplay?

It's really fun. I didn't get too far into it, but I LOVED it, it looked cool.

What are you most excited to see, besides the new content?

You know, everything I saw… I mean, like the arcade is kind of cool. I didn't know what to expect because I've never been to BlizzCon before. So for me, this is all kind of a very new experience. So it was really interesting to go because I normally play on like a PS4 for games like that. But with World of Warcraft, it's the only game I play on the computer. So to play Diablo also was kind of amazing. I could see myself playing for hours. Which is at times a problem.

What did you like most about that Diablo IV experience?

First, I didn't know how any of it worked, but I realized how quick I was very good at killing people. Well, monsters and things, and I loved killing them. I love how fast and good I was at it. Which made sense in a way, it just came naturally to me, like it wasn't hard work at all. I just felt like an extension of my hand and I could destroy them. I liked all the new features. I could freeze them or you can throw fire.

Have you checked the cosplay at all?

Oh yeah! Let me show you! (Proceeds to show several photos of awesome cosplay from her phone.)

So for your first time, how would you rate this con?

Ten out of ten. I didn't even have to think because I love how much people love it. I love them dressed up, I love their enthusiasm, I love, you know, just it's such a different world. I go to E3 every year, I live in L.A., so it's easy to go downtown. I'm a bit of a nerd, I love games. So to come to this, I had no idea how incredible this. It's really special. I could see myself spending the entire weekend here eating and playing. No hating on E3, I was actually there this past year because I had a game out (Telling Lies). It was special in that regard. But I agree. I think this is definitely experience-driven and you could just sit and play and eat. It feels really sweet. I had that same experience with WoW. It feels very cozy to me. Like you could play at home and your friend to play at their computer to create teams and all of that cool camaraderie. And I think it's a good escape from the real world.
