Batwoman Meets Supergirl For the First Time! Plus Solicitation Issues, DC Giants in Walmart for November

Thursday, Bleeding Cool updated the solicit information for the Wonder Woman Giant Volume 2 #2 with information on the new stories and what will be reprinted within.  Early Friday morning Walmarts around the United States put out for sale the new DC Giant books for November with the Walmart exclusive covers.  Among these new books, up 1 book from last month, were Batman Volume 2 #2, The Flash Giant Volume 2 #2, Swamp Thing Giant Volume 2 #2, Batwoman / Supergirl World’s Finest Giant #1 and … Wonder Woman Volume 2 #2.

The solicits for the DC Giant line, now that they are available not just at Walmart but for order at Local Comic Book Stores a few weeks later, have been vague and unusual, with only a half-a-page dedicated to all the Giant line solicited for that month. The ever popular TBD are the only creators listed, no reprint material is announced, and the solicits are only updated patchwork usually a week before FOC. It is an odd way to treat this line of books, which is only been available for order by LCBS since September and DC made a big show for making them available for all now, and not exclusive to Walmart. Why DC would wait until the day before a book is available to buy physically to release the full solicit information is unclear. (Lack of faith in the line in comic book shops? Lack of orders from comic book shops for the line? Lack of marketing emphasis since they didn’t need to be marketed or solicited before? Rushing books out so that Walmart has at least 4 books a month? Anyone know?)

This month continues an emphasis on a wide variety of creators doing short stories set in the Rebirth era of the DCU … kind of. With the new Batwoman CW series, she continues to get focus with new material in Batwoman/Supergirl and reprint focus in both Batman Giant and Batwoman/Supergirl, the Signal gets his own solo outing, Gail Simone, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Amanda Conner continue their runs from Volume 1 of Flash Giant and Wonder Woman Giant, and Batwoman and Supergirl meet for the first time. (Best first versus then team-up exchange in years … maybe ever…)
