"Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina" Gets Amazon Prime Pick-Up
With an "origin story" that's sure to spawn a new wave of hopeful Kickstarter campaigns, Amazon Prime has signed a first-look deal with media and content provider Critical Role. To that end, the streaming service has given a greenlight for two, 12-episode seasons of Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina-based on narratives and original characters from Critical Role. Amazon is looking build upon the current relationship between its live-streaming service Twitch and CR, having hosted the content provider's live role-playing show since 2015.
Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina follows a group of second-rate, drunken adventurers on a quest to save the realm from terrifying monsters and dark magical forces, only to discover a sense of family in the process.

Produced by animation powerhouse Titmouse, Critical Role's The Legend of Vox Machina began as a 22-minute animated special looking for funding via Kickstarter – and it got it. In minutes. Critical Role's campaign would go on to become the most-funded television, film, or animated project in the history of Kickstarter – raising over $11.3M.
The campaign raised enough money to fund a 10-episode season – and attract Amazon Prime's attention. The streamer would go on to order an additional 14 episodes (for a total of 24 episodes across two seasons) to stream exclusively on their service.

Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina stars Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O'Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham, who will reprise their roles. Riegel and Willingham will also serve as executive producers, alongside Brandon Auman (Star Wars: Resistance) and Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse), with Sung Jin Ahn (Niko and the Sword of Light) joining as supervising director and Titmouse serving as the animation studio.
