The Middle Kingdom – the New Asterix Movie to Film in 2020

The Middle Kingdom, is the name of the new live-action Asterix movie being filmed in the spring, directed and starring Les Petits Mouchoirs' Guillaume Canet as Asterix and Gilles Lelouche as Obelix, and will be set in China, and will be an entirely new story, not based on any of the published comics.

The movie will be written by Philippe Mechelen and Julien Hervé, authors of the movie trilogy Les Tuche. Alain Attal's production company, Trésor Films, which produces all of Guillaume Canet's films, will produce the film with Pathé, a partner in all live-action Asterix films.

Guillaume Canet posted a number of pictures on Instagram to announce the movie, appearing with Gilles Lelouche, in character.
