"Overwatch" Switch Has A Retail Version, But It Won't Come With A Cartridge

Overwatch is coming to Nintendo Switch this week, and you can finally play the hero-based shooter via handheld.

You can pick up the game with both physical and digital editions available, but if you're planning on going physical, you can forget about one important thing: the card. The physical edition is corporeal, alright. It comes with a box, but that's about it.

The physical edition will come with a coupon code for Overwatch, which will net you a 12.1GB download to install the game on your Switch. While it isn't the only title that works like this, it's pretty disappointing given that major bonus you get from buying physical (the most important incentive you would have had to begin with) isn't even here. No cartridge means you'll still have to faff about with the cloud, permissions, and all of those fun things.

True, Overwatch is an online-only game, so it's not as if it's a huge loss to see it come without a cartridge, but that's part of the fun of buying a new game, after all. Fortunately, there is a bonus for buying on Switch. All copies come with three free months of Nintendo Switch Online. Overwatch fans looking to curl up with their handheld and play should enjoy that, at least.

With the Switch release, Overwatch will now be available on all platforms except mobile. With Fortnite's ridiculously popular mobile iteration, perhaps that version isn't very far off, either.
